Keyword research
The feature I really like is Topic Explorer that allows to find many relevant keyword and suggest topics for new articles to add to your website.
In the screenshot below I chose ‘Topic Explorer’ and then clicked on ‘Keyword Research’.
Keyword research tools provided by Surfer are amazing SEO tools, choose your country (Australian in my case), enter keyword, click ‘Find New Topics’.
Surfer presents suggested ideas for articles in the form of boxes. It also shows average search volume per month along with keyword difficulty score. This is very handy as it helps to shortlist all the keywords in no time. It’s a great time saver in comparison to other tools.
Creating content
While you can write all your copy from scratch, you can obviously use tools like Chat GPT to do it more efficiently. Surfer allows you to generate outline based on other articles by competition which is a great way to start!
In Chat GPT use a prompt like this – Please create a blog article in Australian English using the following outline ‘[Paste outline]’
Note that more copy is needed, more headings and paragraphs
Enter a new prompt into Chat GPT ‘Please expand to 5500 words, format starting with H1, use at least 50 H2 headings and at least 135 paragraphs.’
If word count is lower, you might need to increase it.
Use ChatGPT to generate updated copy.
Ask Chat GPT to generate more content, copy paste copy into Surfer SEO and check the word count. Repeat the prompt in Chat GPT if word count is still low. Copy paste content into Surfer SEO.
Check score – 73 is a good score in green zone, word count is close to required, we can leave copy.
Click ‘Auto-Optimise’ to optimise copy further
Note a new higher score and boosted content score. Click ‘Save and close’.
Links might not be found if the website has few pages only. In other cases, internal links will be inserted and you just need to check if they are relevant.
Turn on ‘Highlight terms’ for higher visibilty
See if you can manually add keywords that are highlighted in yellow or red to the copy where relevant. You can see suggested range too. 1/3-13 means 1 time used, suggested 3-13 times.
Add images to the pages from Pixabay
Choose a relative image and click on it to insert.
Add image alt text, use as many keywords from the list as possible (underused keywords only)
Repeat for other section. Add images before every H2 tag (major section)
Click ‘Export’ to publish on your website.
If it’s a new page, click on ‘Create a new Draft’. Otherwise if you are just updating existing page, click on ‘Update existing Post’
Click to publish.
Click ‘’Edit in WordPress’ if you want to review or make further edits.
In WordPress set featured image.
Choose a relevant image and click on it
In Chat GPT generate an excerpt for the article
Copy it
Click ‘Add Excerpt’, paste excerpt from Chat GPT and hit ‘Save’
